Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the urns made?
Every urn is made by Larry in his artisan workshop in County Waterford.
What trees are used?
Our urns are made from native Ash, Elm with some Walnut, Oak and 3 – 5000-year-old Irish Bog Oak for special touches.
How are the urns made?
Our urns are crafted through a meticulous three-step process, each step handled with great care by our skilled artisan, Larry Cosgrave.
- Crafting the Urn: The process begins with sawing the tree into the required size. Larry then designs and shapes the urn on the lathe, hollowing it out with handheld tools with each urn developing it’s size and shape as the wood allows it’s story to evolve
- Finishing Touches: The urn undergoes two rounds of turning on the lathe, followed by drying the first turning in an air dryer for up to two months.
- Afterward, the urn is carefully sanded, polished with bee’s wax, and finished with a threaded lid. Each urn is a labor of love, crafted by hand with attention to detail to ensure it is a one-of-a-kind memorial.
Do you chop down trees to make the urns?
No, we do not chop down trees specifically for urn creation. We only use trees that have fallen naturally due to age or weather conditions, or trees that were felled for safety reasons. We believe in sustainable practice and respect for nature in every part of our craft.
Do you make heirloom cremation urns?
Yes, we specialize in crafting heirloom cremation urns that are designed to stand the test of time. Our hand-crafted wooden urns can be cherished and passed down through generations, preserving the memory of your loved one for years to come. If you’re looking for an urn that can become a lasting family keepsake, we would be honoured to work with you to create something truly special.
What sizes do the urns come in?
Our urns are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate different needs. The appropriate size is determined by the height of the deceased and whether the urn is intended to store all of the ashes or just a portion. If you’re unsure about the size you need, don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re happy to guide you in choosing the perfect urn for your loved one.
Can I order multiple urns for my family?
Yes, we offer complimentary sets of urns, made from the wood of the same tree. These sets allow family members to each have a portion of the ashes, while maintaining a cohesive and beautiful design. Each urn in the set is a unique piece, but together, they honour your loved one in a meaningful way.
What makes your urns different from others?
Our urns are individually hand-crafted by Larry Cosgrave, using a slow and intentional process. From sourcing the wood to the final touches, each urn is created with great care and attention to detail, ensuring that no two pieces are the same. This uniqueness makes each urn a personal and meaningful tribute to your loved one.
How long do your urns last?
Our natural, wooden urns are designed to last eternally when displayed indoors, serving as a lasting tribute to your loved one. If the urn is intended for interment, it is biodegradable, gently returning to nature over time. Whether kept as a cherished display piece or laid to rest in a natural setting, our urns are crafted to honour your loved one for years to come.
How long will it take to receive my urn?
